This year A.R.T. has joined forces with The Commonweal Theatre, Lanesboro Arts, and sing-song writer Eric Carranza to produce a new work for the time of social distancing—a radio play to experience while walking at a socially safe distance through the Root River region or in the comfort of your home.
Sound Cloud Audio Links are below.
With COVID 19 disrupting all sectors of life, A.R.T., too, was impacted. So we, in partnership with Lanesboro Arts, chose to take a few new and re-imagined steps.
We collaborated with the Commonweal Theatre Company, and composer Eric Carranza to create founder Catherine Glynn's latest play, The Root River Anthology, into a radio play/podcast. In addition to that, we also chose to continue our tradition of 7 days and 7+ new works by meeting on Zoom and creating videos of work!
Here's an excerpt of some of the work created during this year's jam session:
La imaginación se escapa.
Con una mirada penetrante
Veo lo que puede ser
pero luego siento la distancia
el pasado se fue
el pasado esta muerto
el futuro es incierto
el futuro esta vivo
pero luego siento la distancia
Ahora me rindo

One of the most powerful ways we can confront, unlearn and heal the systematic racism (sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, narcissism, etc.) that is rife within our community/country is to face it head-on.
We want to listen to and share your story (or a fictional character's point of view) and cultivate it for the world to hear! Please feel free to submit a monologue to us and we'll either upload your video or have a member of our A.R.T. ensemble perform it for you.
The idea is to gather new stories that expand beyond our comfort zone and address expanding diversity and tackling racism in our small Northern town.

If you want help cultivating a monologue, whether it be autobiographical or fictional,
ALL ARE WELCOME.
